Post New 52

SO I've been reading some material online (mostly at www.bleedingcool.com) about the problems DC is having with reconciling its post-New 52 timeline. Now I'm hardly a stickler for continuity, especially in this day and age, but you would think that since the Powers That Be at DC (primarily, I imagine, Dan Didio, Jim Lee, and Geoff Johns) knew that they were planning on a fresh start for the DCU that someone would have bothered to work out some kind of basic timeline or DCU bible before the work was set to begin. I'm all for organic artistic growth and so on, but in any kind of fictional shared universe situation one still has certain sign posts to navigate by otherwise the illusion starts to waver and fall apart pretty quickly. I really see this as a pretty major editorial failing rather than a creative team failure.
